God of Hearts
On the 19th of November, it snowed where my husband and I live, and it felt like Christmas had come early—at least for me. I love snow, and in England, it’s a rarity. So, I decided to take a walk, knowing that this magical moment might not return soon. Let me tell you—it was a delight. It felt as though heaven itself had paid us a visit.
The snow blanketed the ground, trees, and leaves; a cool breeze carried the crispness of winter; and the sight of flowers adorned with snow was exactly what my soul needed. Sometimes, routines are essential, and usually, I would have gone for a jog. But on this day, the Lord Jesus slowed me down, encouraging me to savor the beauty around me. I called that day “the day Jesus sprinkled a bit of His glory” for anyone willing to pause, pay attention, and enjoy it.
I’m reminded that God manifests His love and glory to us in countless ways. He reveals His splendour both in the expected and the unexpected, and this is where our intimacy with Him becomes so vital. It’s in the stillness of our hearts and the quieting of our souls that we’re able to notice and receive what He has for us in each moment.
For me, the seasons that bring the most joy are autumn and winter. I’m not entirely sure why, as I know they’re not the warmest, but in these seasons, I see God’s love and beauty in ways I might otherwise overlook. Of course, I also enjoy spring and summer and discover different facets of our Father’s nature during those times too.
John Eldredge often reminds us to let God bring to the surface the desires of our hearts—those we may have buried or ignored—and to share our hearts with Him regularly. By doing so, we become more attuned to His gifts and His love. For me, it’s taken the past five years to reach a place where my heart no longer fears what’s to come or what might be. Instead, I’ve learned to rest in His presence, drink deeply of His goodness, and delight in His promises.
This past Tuesday, my heart was free to fully enjoy the beauty God had placed before me. And let me tell you—my soul was captured and captivated by the moment.
The point of this little blog post is this:
When was the last time you let God breathe His delight into your heart?
Or perhaps another question: Are you noticing how God is showing His love for you?
It doesn’t have to be snow, but I guarantee that He is demonstrating His love for you in countless ways. My encouragement to you is to ask Him what He’s doing, how He’s showing His love. Ask Him to help you stay alert, undistracted, and attuned to His wooing of your heart. Don’t miss the beauty He’s placed before you.
